Missing tube shields shouldn’t cause any hum unless it’s the two phono preamp 12AX7/ECC83 tubes. Unfortunately the forum section went dark some years ago and apparently no one thought to archive it, which is a shame because it had a lot of good information, some of it direct from former Scott engineers. This site has a wealth of information about Scott amps including schematics, a walkthrough of individual components, etc. The 299D uses 5791 output tubes, as does the preceding 299C. That’s the most updated version of their top of the line integrated amp. I'll post some photos once I get the units cleaned up as they are filthy currently because they were stored in a climate controlled garage for many years. I do have the Sam's Photofact for the Scott 299A in my service manual stash but I can't remember which number the manual was. Hello everyone, yesterday I picked up a Scott Stereomaster 299A Integrated Amp and a Bogen AP 30 Integrated Amp in a package deal from a local guy who used to work for Crown here in Elkhart, Indiana and I picked them up along with a set of Acousitc Research Model AR-4x Speakers for $150 and the 2 integrateds will need some work as they both have a "hum" to them according to the original owner that I bought them from which I'm not sure if its filter cap hum or if its a shielding/grounding hum because I noticed on the Scott that all the preamp tubes they had a place for shields to go over them but no shields installed, and I know in some audio applications shielding on tubes is very critical for reducing noise such as hum or other such noise, but It could also be failing filter caps too because these are over 60 years old and unless Scott and Bogen were known for using superior quality parts I would guess that the filter caps might by on the way out by now, not sure since I'm not familiar with Scott and Bogen stereo equipment from this time period.
